About volumetric weight

Volumetric weight, also known as dimensional weight, is a method used by courier services to calculate shipping charges based on the volume a package occupies during transportation, rather than its actual physical weight. This approach is particularly important for packages that are large yet lightweight, as they take up significant space relative to their weight.

Volumetric Weight (kg)=Length (cm)×Width (cm)×Height (cm)÷5,000

The shipping cost is then based on the greater of the two weights: the actual weight or the volumetric weight.

Suppose you have a box with the following dimensions:
・Length: 50 cm
・width: 40 cm
・Height: 30 cm

Plugging the dimensions into the formula gives:

Volumetric Weight=50×40×30÷5,000=12 kg

Thus, the volumetric weight of your package is 12 kilograms. If the actual physical weight of the package is less than 12 kilograms, you will be charged based on the volumetric weight of 12 kilograms. However, if the actual weight is more than 12 kilograms, the charge will be based on the actual weight.
